It’ll definitely be interesting to see where Tones And I’s career goes from here. She actually reminds me a lot of NZ’s own Gin Wigmore and the first time I heard ‘Dance Monkey’ on the radio I was sure it was Wigmore. The song’s a lot of fun, and I love Watson’s deeper voice and somewhat affected pronunciations. ‘Dance Monkey’ has kind of taken the world by storm, hitting #1 in seven countries so far, although it’s likely that number may grow. Watson was apparently a popular busker, first in Melbourne and then Byron Bay, before going on to record her debut EP. She kind of came out of nowhere with ‘Dance Monkey’ to become a bit of a sensation. Tones And I is actually just a single performer rather than a band - nineteen year old Toni Watson from Australia (seen wearing some rather unconvincing old age makeup in the song’s music video). ‘Senorita’s’ reign has finally ended and we have a new #1 with Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey’ Reviewing the #1 single on the NZ music chart each week Dance Monkey - Tones And I
